As a PhD candidate in the GIScience Group, I am part of the EC2U partnership between Jena, Turku (Finland), and Iaşi (Romania). My research is based in the field of urban climatology, particularly, on the urban heat island effect, which is a phenomenon where cities and urban areas experience higher temperatures than their surrounding rural areas. My research involves using a combination of field measurements, modeling, and remote sensing techniques to better understand the causes and impacts of the urban heat island effect. The collaboration between Jena, Turku, and Iaşi allows to bring together diverse perspectives and approaches to tackle this pressing issue.
