Research
Research at the GIScience Group of the University of Jena focuses on the development and application of geographic information technologies and environmental models with special emphasis on the physical environment. This research is embedded in a network of international cooperation partners and funded by the university as well as through external scholarships and grants from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the environmental agency of the state of Thuringia (TLUG), and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), among other sources of funding.
The GIScience Group has four interconnected thematic focus areas:
- Environmental Statistics & GeoComputation
- Environmental Modeling Software & Data Management
- Ecohydrological Modeling
- Earth Surface Processes Monitoring
The methods and software tools developed at the GIScience Group are applied regionally as well as worldwide through international cooperation and international projects. We currently conduct field monitoring mainly in southern Africa, Chile, Brazil, Vietnam, Turkey and Thuringia.
