ForestBiomass
Description:
In May 2013, the German Universities of Freiburg and Jena joined forces to kick-off and conduct a new research project called ForestBiomass. As can already be told from its name, ForestBiomass focuses on the retrieval of aboveground biomass (AGB) in forest ecosystems. In order to estimate AGB, use is made of a large variety and volume of satellite RS data. Therefore, the data analysis task within the project is split into two domains: While the University of Freiburg's Department of Remote Sensing and Landscape Information Systems (FELIS) is in charge of the analysis of optical (i.e., multi-spectral, hyperspectral, and LiDAR) data, the University of Jena's Department for Earth Observation deals with the analysis of SAR data acquired at multiple frequencies (i.e., X-, C-, and L-band).
Duration:
May 2013 - October 2015
Partner:
Department of Remote Sensing and Landscape Information Systems (FELIS), University of Freiburg, Germany
Tasks at the Department for Earth Observation:
Analysis of multi-temporal & multi-frequency SAR data (e.g., TanDEM-X, Radarsat-2, ALOS PALSAR-2)
